Protecting Children from Abuse and Trafficking
Stronger enforcement. Real consequences for predators. Serious support for survivors.
Every Child Deserves to Grow Up Safe
As a father and grandfather, I take this personally. Like any parent, I want to know the children in my family, and in our communities, are protected.
But in Oregon, we are falling short. Our state has one of the highest rates of registered sex offenders per capita in the United States, and human trafficking continues to affect communities across our state. These aren't distant problems. They are happening here.
That's unacceptable. Protecting children is the most basic responsibility we have, and it isn't a partisan issue.
Child Exploitation Happens When Systems Fail
It doesn't happen in isolation. It happens when enforcement is uneven, agencies don't coordinate, survivors aren't supported, and parents are left to face the threats alone.
- Inconsistent enforcement and prosecution of crimes against children.
- Poor coordination between state and local agencies working on these cases.
- Limited support and trauma-informed care for survivors.
- A growing, largely unaddressed threat from online grooming and exploitation.
My Pledge to Oregon's Children and Parents
As Governor, I will make protecting children one of my highest priorities, with stronger laws, real enforcement, and the resources survivors and families deserve.
Stronger Enforcement and Accountability
If someone exploits a child, they should face serious, consistent consequences. No excuses, no shortcuts.
Crack Down on Trafficking Networks
Human trafficking is organized. We need coordinated, statewide efforts to dismantle it, across agencies and across borders.
Protect Kids Online
Online grooming is one of the fastest-growing threats to children. We need stronger safeguards and real consequences for predators.
Support Survivors
Survivors deserve access to trauma-informed care and long-term support, not bureaucratic barriers.
Transparency for Parents
Families deserve clear, accessible information about risks in their communities so they can protect their children.
Not Political.
Personal.
Protecting children from abuse and exploitation is one of the most basic duties of a functioning society. When we fail, the consequences last a lifetime.
Oregon's children deserve better. And I am committed to making sure their safety comes first.
